Artists are often asked to provide statements about their work to clarify their intent and describe their processes. The statements often sound a little silly, not because artists are silly or inarticulate, but because the visual arts are just that--visual--and are exactly as they appear to the viewer. In fact, a work of art is not complete without the response of the viewer.
I can tell you that I create art for the sheer pleasure of working color and form into an image I find aesthetically pleasing, and then offering the image to the viewer for completion in their own experience.
Contemporary Art allows for the greatest interplay of art and viewer because the images are less absolute and more open to interpretation than many other forms. It is this variance in interpretation that makes my work worthwhile. The work begins in my studio, but when you respond to the image, take it home and enjoy it, it becomes a work of art created just for you. Diane Thomass Peck
