Meditation Pieces

Sitting Meditation:
Eyes on the Mountain

Meditation pieces are intended to be viewed with single-pointed concentration, assisting in focusing the mind away from its continuous chatter.

The central position of the mountain allows for the eyes to un-focus after just a few seconds and the peripheral vision sets the surroundings into motion.

Shapes and shadows come together to form new images that keep the mind centered on the ever changing landscape, and keep errant  thoughts from racing through.

Walking Meditation: Into the Trees

In this piece, the single pointed concentration is placed on a central point between the foreground trees. Again, allow the eyes to un-focus and sense the surroundings come to life.

Meditation is on the sensation of walking into the background  and standing at the edge of the hill.

The mind is kept still, as with the concentration one uses when hiking through vegetation on uneven ground.

When the top of the hill is reached, only the meditator can know what he or she sees.

Walking Meditation: Into the Cliffs

In this meditation, concentrate the vision first at the base among the rocks leading into the painting.

Allow the eyes to un-focus and then move slowly up the middle ground to the top of the rugged cliffs.

The sky then becomes the focal point, and the landscape now transcended is in constant movement below.

A metaphor for life, the obstacles conquered are transcended by the clear blue sky of Enlightenment.

Alice Dances with Rabbit

Wonderland buffs will appreciate the surreal qualities in this painting.

Center the concentration on the somewhat circular pattern forming the body of the rabbit and allow the eyes to un-focus and watch Alice dance.

New forms and shapes swirl around revealing the arrow-like rays that point to the sky.

Find Buddha in the sky and reach stillness.
